Billabong Pro Tahiti 2015 starting Soon !!

Home > Wink’s Two Cents

The billabong Pro Tahiti trials have just been completed and some drama unfolded with ASP World tour surfer Michel Bourez’s bother Kevin going down in a bad accident and receiving multiple head fractures and lacerations. Its a sound warning to the dangers these surfers face whilst surfing this famed event and when the main event starts this weekend we all hope we see some big surf and is accident free.
Australian veteran Nathan Hedge has earned himself one of the wildcard spots and the “ Hog “ will fancy his chances up against the best in the world having featured in the Billabong Pro Tahiti Final in the mid 2000’s.
This is such a important time for the surfers challenging the for the ASP World Title as there are plenty of back to back events ahead and being on a roll of confidence through this period is super important.
Kelly Slater must get his campaign back on track and a win here in Tahiti is what he desperately needs just before the California event at Trestles where he will surf on home soil and fancy his chances for a high place finish.
Parko and Fanning are both surfing with plenty of confidence after their great performances in Jbay, South Africa recently and lets hope the boys receive a podium finish together again.
The Australian Surf Masters in Coffs Harbour have been very lucky with the fun waves they have been getting up north around the Emerald Beach and Arrawarra areas and its great to see the organizers willing to use such a mobile event and find the best waves for competitors. Lets hope for the remaining part of the event the waves keep on coming and our local surfers keep some of the silverware in the area.
Also if anyone got the chance to see New Billabong Team rider, Jack Robinson from Western Australia surf Teahupoo in Tahiti recently they will see why he is arguably the best up and coming teenage talent in the world right now. For a 16 yr old he has a huge ticker and a very bright future ahead !!! Check out the Billabong Pro event website for all Jacks clips at Teahupoo !!! Yeeeeww!!
