Teahupoo Turns it on for Worlds Best

Home > Wink’s Two Cents

The Billabong Pro in Tahiti has dished up some solid surf during the opening days of the events waiting period and some displays of courage and commitment. Kelly, Parko and Fanning showed why the are World Champion surfers and were outstanding in their heats. There has been some quite serious injuries already with local Tahitian wildcard Taumata Puhetini suffering a hideous wipeout and taken to hospital precautionary scans on a neck injury and Travis Logie breaking parts of his feet while getting pulled on to the Jet Ski by the water patrol.  Aussie Veteran and event wildcard Nathan Hedge made the surfing world stop and take notice with a perfect 10 point ride in round 2 and he is looking very focused and healthy and he could potentially knock any of the current competitors out of the 2014 event. Hedgy has been a finalist here back in the early 2000’s and always a event stand out so I will be not surprised with seeing him win the event. John John Florence would have to be the most outstanding rising talent in waves of this quality and he can match or better any of his rivals and he is my pick to win the Billabong Pro Tahiti 2014. The event waiting period finishes on the 26th August and there is plenty of solid south west swell travelling through the South Pacific and we will see some extraordinary performances in the closing days. The Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club is staging a fun social event coming up on Sunday the 31st August starting from 12 noon at the Hoey Moey and will be loads of  beach games, Tarp Surfing, Food and Music and it will be great to see all the Groms and parents down there and enjoy each other’s company. Lee Winklers Surf School is now taking registrations for all upcoming SurfGrom programs on www.surfgroms.com or for more info contact lwss@bigpond.com
