The ASP World Championship Tour is starting to get exciting now we move into the back end of the season and the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles will commence this coming week from the 9th September.

Lower Trestles always brings super fun waves to the table and the High Performance of these professional surfers is insane to watch with aerial surfing at its finest.

Gabriel Medina looks in superb form recently and with 3 event wins already this season he has a commanding lead going into the back end of the year and he should be extremely confident here at Trestles with these waves tailored for his air approach. Gabriel being the World Title leader and never having won a world title may lead people to think that he has added pressure on his shoulders and that there is a very good chance that he will crumble under that pressure and there has been many before him that have done this although something about Gabriel is different to me and he has confidence above his 20 years. He has been a multiple World junior champion and basically won everything there was to win at all levels of the sport so being a Champion is not new to him and he carry’s himself this way.

For me he will win this years ASP World Title before Hawaii and become the first Brazilian World Champion and most likely go on to win multiple titles in years to come and this will be great for the sport of surfing.

Kelly, Parko and Mick might have something to say about this but they would all agree they have some serious work ahead of them to take the title away from Gabriel and claim their own World Title this year.

Locally we have seen loads of swell on the beaches recently and left us with countless gutters and out of sorts sand banks and only time will tell on how they repair coming into summer.

The Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club’s September event is on this Sunday and looks as like we will see some waves in the 2-3 ft range and the odd bigger one if we are lucky and we all look forward to seeing ya’s down there.
